I absolutely loved the way in which – fight after fight- the Barbarians’ cocksure attitude is demolished by the superb fighting skills of their female opponents. The Amazons are confident, sassy and ironic: effortlessly, they destroy their foes with their flexibility, elegance and power. The women also seem to have a good time while humiliating the Barbarians and this makes the whole vibe of the saga even more clever and fun. Mad Tomy’s drawings and the script convey this sense of absolute female power – and male submission – perfectly, with a welcome touch of humour. The ‘selected’ Barbarians have only one option, unless they want to die in the most dishonorable way: spending the rest of their clueless male lives as an amazon’s personal slave, crushed under the sexy but lethal feet of a superior woman warrior!
